Outdoor Water Toys Knowledge Base
how do I get water out of a children's outdoor toy? My kid has some heavy-duty outdoor plastic toys like a sand table. I left it outside in the rain and now there's water INSIDE the table (ie. inside the plastic). What's the best way to get it out? If I just drill a hole in it, could that weaken the table such that it might collapse when it's filled with sand again?
What are some inexpensive outdoor toys I can get for my toddler? My 2 year old daughter is very active for her age and loves being outside. I want to get her a few things, but don't want to break the bank. So what are some things I could get for under $15 that would keep her busy. She is pretty good with sports and the like. She has a water table, a ball and a trike. She loves them all. She doesn't like swings as she hates to sit and the climbers are just to pricey. Anyone have any other ideas?
Toys for 15-18 month old? I just got a job as a nanny for the summer of a 15 month old baby. I was wondering what kind of land, water, bath, and outdoor toys I could bring with me that are inexpensive, light weight, and that the toddler would enjoy. Please if you have any good ideas give me some ideas.
Back yard toys for a 2 year old...ideas? My daughter is actually 18 months but I am looking for outdoor toys to use in our yard. Maybe a playhouse, swing set, slide, etc. We have a flat 1/2 acre backyard with an above ground pool. We also have a sport court (small b-ball court). It is hurricane fenced the whole way around. She loves to climb and is very active. We are working on getting a Water/Sand table but need something else. What are parents buying these days? Links or product names would help.
What to buy a 4 year old that has everything for her birthday? Hi everyone, It my partner's daughters birthday at the end of this month she will be turning 4 and we need some ideas of what we can get her. Basically everything we have said we will get her, she already has, she is spoilt rotten by her mum. Her mum has got her an iPod and Nintendo DSi for her birthday (we think she is far too young for these) and want to get her something more appropriate and fun for her age. We have suggested a sand and water tray, outdoor toys, art and craft stuff, play camera (she is fantastic at taking photos), play kitchen etc but she has everything already! She isn't a girly girl, she isn't interested in dress up, or dolls etc but loves art and craft, playing with little figures, dinosaurs, Playdoh, playing outside, being read stories etc. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have heard of the new Magic Maize/Happy Mais, has anyone tried this yet? If there is anything new just out that sounds good, maybe she won't have it already or perhaps something that can only be bought in America etc so it will be most likely she won't have it! Thanks for any help! Thanks for the great ideas so far, definately have given us something to think about! Stellar Meg - luckily she seems to be ok on that front (so far) it's her mum that could do with that present!!
Can I leave a puppy in an outdoor kennel while we're at work and school? We are thinking of getting a puppy, but we will be back to school and work soon. We don't want to leave the puppy in a crate in the house all day, and we came across some outdoor kennels. People have said that if you get a large kennel with a roof over most of it, and provide a nice all weather dog igloo and toys, water, food and such, you can leave the pup or dog in there all day while you're gone. That seems a little iffy to me, though. It would be safe though, from weather, sun, heat, cold and other animals. And of course we wouldn't leave it out if we knew it would rain, or if it was too cold, or even too hot. We would have a room for it inside too. But this way the dog can relieve itself whenever it so needs. So it seems like a good solution, but is it really ok to do? The pup we would be buying is already house broken, but they still need to go out every so often to relieve themselves. So being outside already would solve that problem. And it would be crate trained already, and brought to obedience school before hand. It's not an 8 week old puppy. He's 3 months, and by the time this would happen he'd be 4 and a half months old. And we have much experience with dogs, geeze. We've had several. I was just wondering about this option! We've never been to a point where everyone is in school and work.
Outdoor cat territory... Cat gets annoyed? So i have a 7 year old outdoor/indoor cat. She does have full run of our house... :) we love her to death but shes not the cuddle kitty, try that and she will claw your face off. haha So we also have two outdoor bunnies, they get to come in alot. Our cat watches them and looks tense but i don't think she would hurt them... but still we don't let them interact. Our neighbor has a dog that loves chasing cats. * really??!! I wouldn't have guessed* Well the owner likes to travel and she just left the country for about 2 weeks. And we are dog sitting. The dog gets depressed when left alone at the owners house because no one is there. So we bring her over to our house and put the cat in my room with her food and water and toys and let her outside for how ever long she wishes. Well this dog thing really stresses her out i know, but the owner is gone longer than usual... :| And my cat just gets a tense when she come out of the room cuz i imagine its dog smell all over... :/ Well recently ( today) I saw a really pretty grey long hair cat in the vacation home backyard right behind us. I went and gave food but it ran off. So i assumed it wasn't use to home life. but it would come back to eat. My cat is not friendly to other cats so can this 'me feeding' the other cat stressing my cat? And the dog sitting, How can this be a less stressful event? Any tips? Sorry this is long.. :| just needed to ask. :) Thanks a bunch! Ah yes! Ok well in my opinion i would not want the dog over here all the time. I would have her over at her owners house. Then She has to come over and sleep in a room with my younger sister who is like the trainer! haha We would want to leave her in the day but the owner is not the tidest person, it is dander land and such so... :/
How old is too old to give up my parakeets? I've had my pair of parakeets for over seven years. When we first got them, we didn't know much about them. They have lived a fairly good life with food, water, treats & toys, outdoor time in the spring and summer and each others company. Yet they are not tame (not hand trained) and have always been in the cage. As they are getting older and are beginning to have health issue, we cannot afford to take them to the vet. I do not feel we are giving the best life possible so I would like to give them to a shelter where they can be cared for. But, would it be more damaging to the pair if they are put in a shelter at this age? I live in NJ and I would it would be great if anyone could list any shelters that would be a permanent home for them. I don't want them separated by adoption.
My outdoor kitten hasn't come back!? Well about 3 weeks ago, we rescued an outdoor kitten, who lives on our porch where we give him food and water and some toys. He wouldn't really leave our porch much, but as he got used to living here, he started to wander out a little. He's really young, like 3 months old. And today, my dad says he fed him then left for work, but that was at 5 am and now its 7pm and i haven't seen him all day! Is he going to return? He's never been away this long!
Why has my cat become very needy and craving for attention? Recently I have taken my indoor/outdoor cat to indoor only when I moved homes. It has been going on 3 months now and everything is fine except he has become extremely needy .... he meows a lot for me to caress him and give him attention, he constantly wakes me up in the early mornings and behaivor like this. I don't know what to change or do differently ... he has toys, food/water, etc. Have suggestions? It'd be great to hear! Thanks
indoor outdoor cat.......................? i have had a cat for 2 years she just turned 2 a couple days ago, i want to turn her into a indoor outdoor cat. i moved all her stuff (cat tree, litter box, food, water and all her toys) into the garage, in about 3 weeks im thinking about putting a cat door So she can come in and out as she pleases. i want her to come home at night how do i get her into the routine of doing that. and is it ok for her to kill all my garage mice
Debate: Indoor vs. Outdoor? I think that cats should be kept indoors only. After have 3 indoor/outdoor cats disappear I vowed never to let another cat outside, its too hard. Cats are perfectly fine staying indoors if they have food, water, litter, plenty of toys, and lots of attention and they live much longer, healthier lives. People that let their cats out obviously have never felt the pain of losing a cat, or they just don't love them as much as I do, cats don't have to go outside. Most shelters only let you adopt a cat if it will be indoors only for a reason. Indoor cats have the same quality of life as outdoor cats, it just lasts longer.
How to take care of a outdoor puppy? I want to get a dog really badly, and my mom gave me the ok, but she says she will only allow it outside the house. We plan to get a Labrador pup, and take it out for walks everyday. There is a park nearby our house. We don't plan to keep him chained outside in our backyard, he can roam around freely in the backyard since it is fenced. But our backyard mainly only has dirt. ( of coarse we plan to get a dog house, food water bowl and some toys ) And we live in a dessert, so it can get very hot, and very cold allot of times, but my mom said she won't allow him to be indoors. What age should I start taking it out for walks ? Whats the best way to keep it warm during the winter ? How can I keep it from feeling lonely ( besides playing with it everyday) How should I train a dog that is gonna be spending its time outdoors (since house breaking probably doesn't apply to outdoor dogs) , but I'm hoping that if I train it good enough, my mom won't mind if its indoors ) Do not answer if you are only gonna say "don't have a dog if he will only be outdoors "
job idea: Good or Bad? I would like to open an animal shelter called "Angel Shelters" (my little sisters name), where people with unwanted pets can just drop them off no questions asked. I would supply the animals with food and water toys, beds, indoor and outdoor housing, large spacious open land, treats and everything else animals need. I would except any type of animal and give it accurate housing. I would also sell the animals to loving homes for a profit. I understand about all the money and keeping the animals seperated they i would have a vet on the spot and all the animals would get spayed and neutered. they would also get automatic checkups.
What should i get for these poor orphan kids? :*(? ok, for christmas this year, my parents and i are doing something different, we are adopting 2 little kids for a day, they are siblings, one is a little boy of 7, amd his sister is 2. one of them is really ill something i don't know yet, and there parents are dead, for reasons i don't know either. i got the little girl down, but i'm wondering what toy i should give the little boy? he said he likes things involving science, and sharks. now, i want you guys to post as many shark and science toys as possible that are under 50 dollars. i'm even paying for the stuff myself, i want this to be his best chrismas ever. please help, i don't know if the kid that's sick is terminally ill, so i want the gift to be really special. p.s. , i've tried the discovery store, everything there never works. if its a water toys, they always make sure it leaks. it can be any type of toy, but keep in mind that the boy might be the sick one, so nothing like water blasters or outdoor stuff, and i dont know about computer games or dvds, they are hospitalized orphans, so please keep in mind of those facts k? i'm not sure how it works, but i don't think they have access to tv or computers please help me make these two little kids christmas better, thank you
I have an indoor cat but we put her in our basement at night and she attacks us? Our cat was a stray and we had her fixed and she was strictly an outdoor cat. Now we've had her for 4 years and she's almost entirely an indoor cat. We don't have a litter box inside though so at night we put her in the basement which has a litter box, food, water, heater, and all her toys. Every time I go to put her up for the night she trys to attack me and growls but during the day she's very quiet. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
10Year Old Cat Toys?!? I have a 10 Year Old cat and the reason why I dont give him toys to play with is because he is an outdoor/indoor cat. He is outside almost everyday. The only reason why he doesn't stay outside is because of food, water, and if it rains. Then he goes out in the backyard to explore again. I tried MAKING cat toys for him but he just ignored them.. Sometimes he even ran away. -_- What kind of toy would you suggest to this kind of cat? -About 10 Years Old -Friendly -Not that active (unless he goes outside!) ++ I want him to be active. -Likes feathers.. -I think he is an American Short Hair. I am sure.. -He's all white. I want a toy that will dangle from the air and I was thinking if he would jump for it or chase it etc. But I don't know if he will ignore it or not. I want to buy about three different kinds but not that expensive. I was thinking of searching in Petco or Petland Discounts. So0o.. What would you suggest?
Would an Outdoor Budgie Aviary be a Good Idea? Would an outdoor budgie aviary be a good idea? I live in Land O' Lakes, which is in Tampa, Florida. I love my 3 budgies to death, and I thought that it would be neat to build them a larger "aviary-like" cage outside of the house. The plan is to give them a bigger home that they would be happier in, and I plan on making the interior look more like a typical Australian budgerigar habitat. The cage will have a roof for shade, and the interior will contain a bunch of plants for extra shade. I also want to add a shallow pond with a waterfall at the bottom, so that my budgies can get water to drink and have a place that they can bathe in. Plenty of perches, varied foods, nest boxes, cuddle bones, mineral blocks, and toys will also be placed inside of the enclosure. My concerns are the Florida heat. I take my budgies outside all the time, but mainly when it is getting dark out. If it is during the day, I usually bring them out only for about 5 minutes, and I also bring a spray bottle out with me. Will the constant heat and humidity be too much for my budgies? If you have any ideas I will love to hear them. P.S. Please don't leave any answers on how to care for my budgies. I have had all 3 of them for a while now, and I know how to care for them.
Should I take my parents' neglected outdoor dog? I’m a huge dog lover and I currently have an 8 month old shepherd collie mix along with three cats. Well, my parents live out in the country with an indoor Pomeranian and an outdoor Great Pyrenees that I think is mixed with Golden Retriever. He is about four years old. He has lived outside in the back yard his whole life. He has a dog house with straw, no toys, no attention, fed tons of table scraps and I feel that he is lucky to have food and water. He is overweight, matted fur, and just loves someone to pet him and say what a good boy he is. He has been mistreated and is scared of thunderstorms and coyotes. When my husband and I come over he cries for attention. He usually tries to attack my dog through the fence. Well, recently I let my dog play with him in the back yard. They got along great. My dog can out run him in a heartbeat but he enjoys the chase. Sad story I know. Well my parents have said I can take the dog home with me. What are the pros and cons here? I have a large backyard, but I don’t live in the country. We would take excellent care of him, but would he be able to handle the change? Would he adjust to living in a house? I’m afraid my parents would just get another dog even if I made them promise not to. I’d hate for another dog to go through that. When inside a house he goes crazy and pees. Of course, I would too if I was bound to loneliness out in the cold. How do I handle this? If I do take him – how do I transfer him into this different lifestyle? He is neutered, he has just never had any attention so he gets kind of crazy. He doesn't understand house rules. It will take a lot to rehabilitate the dog. He is very smart and learns very quickly. My husband and I were discussing in front of him yesterday and he started "talking" to me like he knew what I was saying. They feel he is a guard dog (who is afraid of his own shadow). They have cats that come in and out of the house. They believe he shouldn't be a house dog, that he likes it outside and big dogs should stay outside. A terrible view point I know. Their little Pom stays inside all the time and goes to the park etc. The big dog stays in the back yard.
Pitbull owners... What do you do with your dog and toys.? I have a six month old lab/pit mix and owned a boxer/pit mix. What a great dogs... I absolutely love them. The issue I'm having is that my puppy is lazy. I'm a big runner and outdoor person and when I take her out to play she just lays in the grass and plays with butterflies. I've tried all kinds of activities with her. I run with her in the mornings but only about a mile because I don't want to push her so young. She's alright with the running but doesn't LOVE it. I've tried getting her into the lake to swim but she's not into swimming, she just splashes around on the sides and will retrieve a stick only if it's shallow. She's not into playing fetch. She will run after it and then take the ball away and lay down and chew it. My pit/boxer mix was a lot like that too, just not much into the ball playing. She likes to go for hikes but it's SO hot here that I just feel cruel when I take her out into the desert heat. I don't mind at all that she's a porch lounger, in fact I like how subdued and chill she is. I just feel guilt if I'm not getting her out and getting her lots of exercise. My boxer/pit and I lived on a farm so he ran around with the other dogs all day and I didn't worry about it. I'm just trying to find an activity that she LOVES!! She does like doing tricks and things but gets bored so I'm not sure if agility would be a success. Also she's a big chewer. But any chew toy or rawhide she gets ahold of it's demolished. What toys do you recommend getting that will last and she'll like. She loves plastic water bottles and it's a real problem stopping her from getting into them and chewing them to bits... definitely do not encourage that one! Anything helps!! Thanks!
how can i turn an exclusively indoor cat into an exclusively outdoor cat? My cat is a house cat and has lived indoors all his life. He's not a year old yet, but he's big and strong and he recently started to bite me and my husband. I just had a baby and she's only 4 weeks old and I haven't been able to devote very much time to my kitty anymore so I think he's full of all this energy and bites me to play and let it out. He has many toys, but he still jumps on me all the time and yesterday he almost bit my baby and I can't have that. My darling daughter is definitely more important. Please don't lecture me about the dangers of having an outdoor cat. I am aware of them, but he has a collar and a tag, he has his claws (they are very sharp he's scratched me lots) he will have access to the garage where his litter box, food, water and bed will be. He's had shots and he's been fixed. I love him very much and he loves it outside because I've let him out a few times with me and he stares out the window all the time and tries to run out the door. I'd rather let him be outdoors then be confined in a small garage the rest of his life. wow cats love it outside people! they have natural hunting abilities and instincts. He really, really wants to go outside. He has been out before and he loves it. He'll do alright. My mother and mother in law both have outdoor cats and they've been alive for 13 years so far. Again DON'T LECTURE ME TO KEEP HIM LOCKED UP INDOORS OR TO GIVE HIM AWAY! I love him and want him still! Hasn't anyone ever heard of having an outdoor pet!?! If you don't agree with my decision then don't answer. I'm asking people who have had similar experiences and who have outdoor cats. Loving my husband (who has always hated the indoor cat but has put up with it for me) and my baby (who I'd hate to see get scratched) and still wanting to keep my precious Mowgli (that's my cat's name) DOES NOT MAKE ME IMMATURE!
Mum keen of getting a border collie in the future, I feel that there not really suited to our lifestyle.? Mum like an outdoor dog-rules here-some dogs are happy being outdoors-we give our current 9yr old dog heaps of attention and daily walks and play session, she a labrador x golden retriver, we are getting land the 903squares metres.Mum doesn't like shorthair dog she think there ugly, she doesn't like greyhounds, she like medium to longhaired dog. I feel mum doesn't really understand the energy requirements that are assoicated with the border collie. They require 4km walks, two walks of 2km daily. I would be the one responsible for walks and mentle stimulation of this highly energetic breed We have 3yr old, and 12yr old, we are not planning to get another dog for a while. I be happy to consider a border collie if i was 5yr+ from a shelter-which should i am guessing a little bit sedate.Mum would rather have a puppy- no way. We do not ingnore our outdoor dogs, we provide them with shelter, food water, toys. What are some less energetic breeds, but still suitable for outdoor life. Also my dog get plenty of daily walks & mentle stimulation. Basically mum likes a pretty dog and pretty is in the form of medium or longhair category. We are active, i am not a 1st time dog owner, have had another dog breeds such as Collie.
Can i use normal gravel for outdoor plants in my aquarium? hi beasts i was wondering if normal out door plant gravel can be used for aquarium use? or will it harm any of my fish or plants and the tank water. my dad has bought outdoor gravel a while ago and hes left quiet abit of it unused.my aquarium looks like a toy aquarium because of the different doloured rocks and i cant reallty put live plants in their (ive really wanted live plants for a long time) aquarium. Ive got all livebearers in my tank and their wild environment consists of mostly plants and algae (algae never grows in my tank). Ive got 2 choices:-P RED_-Will it look wierd in an aquarium, and my red platy might get lost LOL it is also the type of gravel that is painted into its colour. WHITE_-It will look good but when i take it out it is very poudery and might take a very long time to clean, and rince. What do u think? And how do u take rocks out and put the gravel in with out harming the fish. i also have a couple of ornaments so....... THX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What are some fun indoor or outdoor activities to do with a one year old? It's hot outside during the day and I don't go for walks often since it's been that way, only at night. My daughter and I are very bored of her toys and we play with water bottles, the shower head where I pretend it's raining. They entertain her for the time and that's not what I can do all day since everything will be soaked if I do that. We talk to each other. I talk, she says selective words she can pronounce. She likes the keyboard to the computer, but my butt starts to hurt or she starts messing with the keys, like now, and it gets hard to do things because she wants whatever I have. So, we need new ideas. I bought her an educational table that teaches English and Spanish and she is only interested for a short period of time. Any other suggestions?
How do I keep a 6 and 7 year old entertained? Hi I'm a 13 year old, and I have a sister who is 6. Our 7 year old cousin came over for a sleepover, and it's summer, so we can stay up a little. I want to do something fun with them, and don't know what. I remember two days ago when it was really hot and I decided to make a water park in my backyard for them. I got the hose and tied it over a tree so that when you turned it on, it would make a shower. Then I went to Walgreens and bought water guns and water toys. I got an inflatable mini pool we already had and put so much things in the backyard. Then I handmade these tickets and gave it to them to make it seem real to use on any of the mini water rides I made. It was a really fun day! Now, I'm not really sure of what to do. I usually am good with coming up with entertaining games and now I am out of ideas. It's night time right now, so we can't to any outdoor activities. So, what should I do?
My cat recently shared space with a stray kitten, is she still healthy? My 1 1/2 year old cat shared an occasional water/food bowl and litter box with a rescue kitten for about a week and a half. I don't have the money for extra vet visits, so I didn't get to take the kitten in to get him checked out. I did try to prevent the sharing for a while, but I couldn't keep my eye on them at all times, and my apartment is too small to have kept them completely separate. I've read a lot of conflicting information about things like FIV and how it's transmitted. Should I be concerned? They never fought or scratched or bit each other, in fact my cat stayed very far from the kitten for the most part. She did not like him at all! What worries me is the saliva from sharing food/water/toys. More about the kitten: He was only with me from January 27 - February 13; I found him a home. If need be I can still contact the person I gave him to. Of course, I don't know what his health was like. He was found by a dumpster, most likely abandoned, though he probably wasn't outside for very long. He was very clean with no cuts or bites on him, his ears didn't look chewed on and his teeth were good, paws didn't show signs of living outdoors... (I had a tomcat once who was primarily an outdoor cat, and his ears/teeth/paws were terrible. This kitten was nothing like that. The tomcat died from feline leukemia though, which is why I'm so paranoid about taking in strays now!) He was a very energetic little guy, did the whole crazy 5-minute run around thing, also extremely curious and mischievous! He sure loved to get into everything, and he'd eat anything if you'd let him. (Though on that note, I did keep an eye out for worms and didn't see any sign of them. He actually gained weight and grew a little while I had him.) It makes me think he has a clean bill of health on him, but he wasn't neutered, so perhaps he hadn't been to the vet in a while? He was about half the size of my cat, so I think he was maybe 6 or 7 months old. Any/all input would be lovely, especially advice from seasoned cat owners! Should I book my cat a vet appointment for blood tests and the like? Or am I being silly? I almost forgot to add: My cat is up-to-date on her vaccinations. She does have allergies though! It's a seasonal thing, her skin gets very dry and she'll itch a lot. And she's been spayed, of course... Though that's very interesting about toms and mating, oh dear.
What should I do about this?? Do you think its fine or not so good to leave a 14 lb Chihuahua mix in a outdoor fenced patio during the day and it has a roof so rain or shine wont affect the dog..while im at school and my parents at work. It has food, water, toys, kennel (he can walk in and out as he pleases) and a dog bed. Even though he has a big kennel..i feel bad leaving it there during the day..i want him to have to space to roam around..cuz leaving him in the house wouldnt be such a good idea cuz he can get hurt btw the patio has screen windows and a door so nothing like a dogs or birds can get to the patio also..its really not all day just til 3 p.m
Help! My puppy is destroying everything!? I have a 7 month old black male lab mix. He is the best dog ever! was potty trained in a week, is polite with people, doesnt bark at other dogs or people....but he has a problem. Whenever we leave him alone he destroys EVERYTHING he can get to. This so far includes 5 pairs of shoes, 2 playstation controllers, boxes of kleenex, books, and picture frames. He has plenty of toys, has outdoor access and plenty of water. I am at a total loss as to why he is acting out this way and what i can do about it. Im hoping someone out there has had a similar problem and can tell me about what they did to overcome it. I am open for all suggestions and comments. Thanks in advance everyone! Pierced....Thank you so much for the link to that article. That was fantastic..there is so much information! Im gonna try some of that immediatly!
Would this be a good way to turn outdoor cats into indoor cats? I looked on Humane Society of the United States and I found that it is really dangerous for cats to live outside. So I was thinking I could buy them some cat toys to replace the real toys outside (mice, moles, birds, and squirrels) and buy some cat grass to replace real grass, buy them collars with bell, rabie tags, and name tag, and only let them out once a day or every other day (they come back when called). So do you think this would be a good way to break the habbit of living outside. More info if need.... One of the cats was a kitten found in the woods and she had kittens and we kept her daughter. They have a giant scratch tree and cat bed. And if they meow or scratch do go outside what should I do? squirt them with water? Thank you!
Making an indoor dog to an outdoor one? I have a yellow lab and a black lab mix who have been living indoors for 5 of their 7 years. Even though they are let outside very regularly, the lab mix pees in the house all the time. And my yellow lab is very aggressive to other dogs (she recently horribly killed my new puppy). My lab mix barks steadily at all visitors. The yellow lab is very aggressive to service people and has to be put outside during these times. Both were used to being around people and pets because I had two small dogs when I got them. Both small dogs have since passed on from age. They actually enjoy being outside and when inside all they both do is sleep in the dark hallway, they NEVER play. Outside they run and bark and get a lot of exercise (I have a large fenced in backyard). I have bought them a very nice dog house which I put under the awning of my back patio. They will steadily be in the shade and dry if it should rain. Plus I go outside all the time, as does my husband, and I take them walking on leashes, and for car rides. I guess I'm looking for opinions. I love my babies and I spend a lot of money on them for food, treats, toys and vet care. But I also loved my puppy and want to get a new one but don't want him to be killed by my overly spoiled and aggressive yellow lab. My yellow lab has odd behaviors unlike most labs. Aggression toward service people (or any strangers that are outside), aggression toward other animals, she hates water, she's not active and wanting to play. But still, I love her very much. What are you opinions please? UPDATE: My fenced in backyard is nearly 1/2 an acre. There is TONS of shade and I live in a very nice brick subdivision. Even as inside dogs, they constantly whined to go out and would stay out for very long periods of time. They have total freedom of the backyard. Fresh food and water and toys and fluffy beds up inside their huge dog house where, last night, they slept together and didn't even bark or whine to come indoors. Last night was their first night out. Both are on heartworm prevention and are cared for properly. I do love them, but I just feel it's time to put them outside and give them the freedom to run and play that they don't have indoors. I do understand that some think Maggie (my yellow lab) needs a trainer. I would agree but don't have the money for something like that right now. Any puppy I get in the future will be tiny and will be brought out front for bathroom purposes and not out back where she is.
What can i put in my ferrets outdoor cage to keep her warm and happy ? Hi I have a year old ferret she has always lived outside with her old family but since i have had her (about 3weeks). She has got a big outdoors cage with a run attached to it but i wasn't going to put her out into it until the summer when i have got another ferret to keep her Company and its a bit warmer But my family keeps Moaning at me because she wont use her litter tray and keeps going to Toilette behind my door and its ruining the floor and she smells quite a lot even though she has ferretdeodorantt. At night she makes a lot of nose as well and it stops me from sleeping. So she has got to go outside in her hutch. She has a food bowl, water bottle, litter tray, food and dust free hay/straw as bedding, i filled the whole sleeping area to the top with it and added some of my dogs fluff (he is a keeshund so when we brush him we get loads of like wool). But i do not no what else she should have in there. She will still be in my room for about 7 hours a day when im home from school so she wont be in there all the time. What would be good toys for her? Is there any extra bedding i can add to keep her warmer? Thanks i really am worried about her going outside. x
my cat has a habit of chewing on plastic bags...? over the past few months my cat has developed the habit of chewing on plastic bags. she started doing it in secret (when we are out) about three to four months ago and then stopped for ages. yesterday she came up infront of me and started chewing on the bag i'd just brought in with me full of shopping. she's an indoor cat, but has plenty of toys and attention, fresh water and food. i haven't tried cat grass yet and i thought this may be the prob. but then i heard my friends two outdoor cats (ten miles away) were doing the same thing!!!! any ideas? i started putting all plastic bags (once i'd put shopping away etc) in a cupboard high up when i first found she'd chewed on them. the other day i'd sat down for a quick rest when i got in looking at what i bought and there she was.....
Keeping my dog at home? I have a lab who is about 9-10 months old. She always wants to go out and play with the neighbors puppy who is about the same age, but she annoys the neighbor (who's had many dogs that ironically annoy all of the other neighbors, but then again so does he...). We have about 6 acres out in the country, so there is lots of room for her to run so it's not that she is always cooped up. The yard is fenced but the front is a simple 3 board fence (more for decoration and boundary marking). We give her attention and such everytime we are outside which is a few times a day. Anyway, I'm looking for a way to let her be in the yard without going to the neighbors. We do have an outdoor cage (the tall square ones, not like an indoor kennel) which she goes in for a while when she wont stay home, but i hate having her in there, even though theres room and she has a dog house, toys, food, water, etc. I feel like she is cooped up. im in college and my dad wont let the dog in the house. theres no question, we sneak her in sometimes, but dont suggest that please because its not a possibility. also, anything too expensive like an electric fence or redoing all the fencing in the front is not going to work for my dad either. He puts her in the pen, which like i said is big enough for her to paly a little and for her house, but i wish she could roam the yard. so please, no rude answers like "duh, put her in the house" i am looking for a good way to train or any other suggestions u have, thank u! we do put her in the big pen when she goes to the neighbors. we call her back and (she usually comes) when she comes she goes over there cuz she knows she has to go in. we live in a place where everyone knows everyone else and their business, and she has a collar so i dont think she would be thought of as lost. she only goes across the street but we cannot change the front fence it would be expensive (it was to put it in) and she is spayed

What should I do with my dog? A few days ago, my mom friends gave 2 chihuahua to us and we left it indoor for one day. When we woke up, it wasn't very clean so my parents want to move the dog outdoor. It keeps crying and wanting to go into the house, because it's suppose to be an indoor dog. At night, we put both dogs in a crate with food, water, and toys. However, the dog still cries for very long. I feel really bad for these chihuahua because the previous owner kept the dog is perfect condition. I feel really bad and I'm planning to give them to someone who can handle these chihuahua better. Basically, I just want them to have a safer environment and a good life. I'm usually not emotional but seeing tears in those dog's eyes really touched me. Also, I dont want to put it up for adoption because those kennels seems terrifying and it would be worse. Any suggestions? *My parents feel bad too but they wont move it in, no matter what* Besides being dirty we live with another family and that other family really hates dog. Also, I can't find anyone who would take these dogs, what are website I can put them on for another family?
Old cat does not like new cat!? Hello, Yesterday we got a 1-1 1/2 year old male (neutered) cat from an Animal Shelter. He is a very friendly and affectionate cat. He gets along with both cats and dogs. We also have a 1+ year old female (spayed) cat. She is a friendly and active cat. We have had her for almost a year. She has been hissing and growling at him. He tries to go up to her playfully, but she hisses and growls at him. They are in the garage. We have a bird, so we can't have them as indoor cats. The Animal Shelter said that he used to be an outdoor cat, and if he doesn't go outdoors, he'll pee on the floor. We have a big dog cage that we used to use for our German Shepherd. We put it in the middle of the garge and put a litter box, food, water, and toys in it for him. We locked him in there last night so that our new cat wouldn't be terrified or anything. Today we let him out, and that's when she really started hissing and growling. Is there anything I can do to get her to stop hissing? All he wants to do is play and be friends. She just wants him to stay away. I understand that cats are territorial, and I know she thinks that he is invading her territory. She is able to get away from him though. She has been going outside for a while. We aren't going to let him out until he is used to her. (by the way, we live away from the road, and we lock her in at night) About how long should it take for her to adjust to him? Thanks in advance! ♥A♥P♥ Sorry that it's long. Please? anyone? :(
Lab Dog with The Chewing Problem? I have a lab retriever he is almost 2 years old now. We have a big yard with the invisible fence for him to running around but he has a very bad habit, he chews up everything outdoor, the water hose, the boat, the Jet Ski, our cars, and his door but he never chews up anything that are in the house. We brought many toys for him but it only works for short time, and we also brought the stop chewing spray it didn’t works either, now my husband had to put all the wire around the boat, Jet Ski or other places in the yard so he can’t get close to these objects. But it is very sad for me to see him has no place to run and also frustrated that to see my husband get so mad at him. Ohh by the way, he only listen to my husband not me, my husband is his master, his alpha. I need help!!! Thanks
Question about sleepaway camp, 10 points best answer.? So, I asked this question about five times and I know what activites I'm doing. But now my little sister doesn't know what to do. She's in 3-4 grade, meaning she's going into fourth and she loves water. She has different activities from me, so tell me which you think would be the funnest activities for her:: * American Red Cross Swimming Lessons * Archery (for Pathfinders only) * Cedarbrook Choir * Crafts * Drama * G3 (Girls, Giggles, & Games) : Different things every day. * Hiking * Kayaking * Nature Discovery * Outdoor Cooking * Puppets * Sports & Games * Toy-making * Water Games List the funnest, thanks <3
Question about sleepaway camp. Please help, 10 points? My sisters and I are going to sleepaway camp and there are activities you do for a week that you're there. My little sister doesn't know what activities to do, so can you help? Choose the funnest three out of this list, thanks. # Crafts # Drama # G3 (Girls, Giggles, & Games): Different activities every day # Hiking # Kayaking # Nature Discovery # Outdoor Cooking # Puppets # Sports & Games # Toy-making # Water Games # American Red Cross Swimming Lessons # Archery (for Pathfinders only) # Cedarbrook Choir: Sing songs, and dance Okay, she likes water by the way but my mom doesn't want her doing anything dangerous since she can't swim as well.
How can I stop my 1 year old pug from chewing a leather sofa? My family adopted a pug from a pug rescue. She's about a year old and is chewing a lot. We have two other 4 year old pugs and 2 cats which she plays with. We regularly walk her. We provide MANY toys and "bully-sticks" and rawhides for her to chew. She shreds toys, has ripped up outdoor furniture and some older furniture. Recently, she's started chewing on the leather sofa when she's not getting constant attention (the family is watching TV, eating dinner, running an errand, not long term lack of attention). We think her chewing was why she was given up by the other family. My parents are totally losing patience with her because her chewing is getting to be a very expensive bad habit. We've tried spraying water at her, providing more toys/exercise, bitter sprays, "avoidance" sprays, and physically moving her from the couch to the dog area and giving her a toy to chew instead. We're running out of ideas and furniture. Help!! Crate training isn't an option since the other dogs aren't crate trained, she would freak that the other dogs are out while she's not. We walk her twice a day, morning and evening. We also have a large yard where she runs with the other dogs. She has a million toys. Rawhides, bones, kongs, chews for big dogs so they'll be tough for her to gnaw on but she still eats through them. We've tried the pinning, she isn't learning. Unfortunately, my dad isn't consistent so our step foward is followed by two steps back. And bitter apple doesn't work. We've tried literally every bitter spray possible. Thanks for all of the advice, keep it coming!!! =] We're big Dog Whisperer fans here, so we've tried a lot of the techniques, the issue with that is consistency since my dad refuses to follow the rules we set for her. A trainer may be a direction to go, we just didn't know if they'd be able to do much since the vet brushed it of as "she's a puppy, she chews"

Bichon Frise?Am i ready? I really want a bichon frise because tons of people have been suggesting it and they seem so perfect!I've been doing tons of research and i've been checking websites for training :D I am 11 years old and very responsible (if i do say so myself) i have school from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.I have a baby brother so my mom stays home all day usually. If i do get a Bichon Frise i want to buy it during summer vacation so i can spend loads of time with it and train it.I even made a list of things i should keep note of if i ever do buy this breed...: *Brush fur every day *Take to a groomer once every 2 weeks *Exercise at least 2 times a day *Make a small pen area where family is usually at (w/ bed, fresh water and food,toys,etc..also if anyone has suggestions on pen areas it would be great help!) *Have nails trimmed every 3 months *I still have to make a schedule and a feeding schedule...for both school days and weekends (if there is a website that can help out with that also i would be grateful!) *I'm not sure what brand of food they eat If there is something i need to add or correct please tell me!By the way,i have a 2 story house with a pretty big backyard for exercise and outdoor training.I also have a question... are they better when they are outdoor trained or indoors?(I will also make another question about another topic!)
My dog is acting strange?!? So my dog is a mainly indoor (sometimes outdoor) dog. But over the past week she has been acting strange. She's killed 7 oppossums in our backyard in 2 days. The day after the slaughter stopped, we took her into the vet and she got a rabies vaccine (she was due for one). But since its been getting hot (summer) I decided to go out, feed her, and let her inside. But she was laying down beneath a very leafy tree. And so I called her and she came out to me but when I tried to lead her to the deck, she didn't do what she usually does which was pull away from me and SPRINT towards the back door to be let in. Instead the pulled herself down to the ground and when I tried to pull her up she scratched me and bit me multiple times (she was laying on her back and so her belly was showing. She's never acted like this before except for when she has to get a bath. She doesn't want to play with her favorite squeaker toy anymore or just play, she wants to roam around the backyard, hunt and sleep. She rarely comes up on the deck (which is where her food bowl, water bowl and toys are) and she used to LOVE sleeping on the deck. Now she only sleeps beneath shady trees. I'm scared . . . please help!! She isn't pregnant and she got a checkup from the vet and they said that she was perfectly healthy. NVm. She DOES want to play but only the game of "I'll-Run-Around-And-You-Try-To-Catch-Me!!"
Considering there isn't a Sexuality section? Because people often keep posting non-LGBT sex-related questions in this section (BDSM, prostitution, pedophilia, etc etc etc), I figured I'd make a list of categories that their questions should belong in instead. What do y'all think? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arts & Humanities - Performing Arts - Other - Arts & Humanities Business & Finance - Careers & Employment - Health Care B&F-C&E - Law & Legal B&F-C&E - Marketing & Sales B&F-C&E- Other - Careers & Employment B&F - Small Business B&F - Other - Business & Finance Computers & Internet - Internet - Other - Internet Consumer Electronics - Games & Gear - Other - Games & Gear Education & Reference - Other - Education Entertainment & Music - Polls & Surveys E&M - Other - Entertainment Family & Relationships - any of the subcategories Food & Drink - Beer, Wine & Spirits Games & Recreation - Hobbies & Crafts G&R - Toys G&R - Other - Games & Rec reation Health - Diseases & Conditions - STDs H - Men's Health H - Mental Health H - Women's Health Local Businesses - any of the subcategories Pets - I don't even want to think about which subcategories... Pregnancy & Parenting - Adolescent P&P - Trying to Conceive P&P - Other - Pregnancy & Parenting Science & Mathematics - Biology Social Science - Gender & Women's Studies S&S - Psychology S&S - Other - Social Science Society & Culture - Religion & Spirituality S&C - Other - Society & Culture Sports - Outdoor Recreation - Other - Outdoor Recreation S - Water Sports S - Other - Sports ------------------------------------------------------------ Did I leave out any important categories? @Gwennie: lots of things don't fit neatly into one category. For example, a question about finding out your son is gay, could go in LGBT, parenting, adolescents, etc. Likewise, BDSM could fit in a few different categories. But if it's straight BDSM, it does NOT fit into LGBT. Right?
How can I stop my dog whining when I leave? A little background - my dog is a long wire haired Jack Russell, aged 12 and I have owned him a little over a year. I acquired him as I used to work for his previous owner of 10 years and part of my duties was taking care of her dogs. A few months before my employment ceased with Sams previous owner she offered him to me as her only other option was to have him put to sleep. Her only reason for this was that he was often wandering off on his own and getting himself and the other animals injured. (Basically, he lacked attention from his owner). He lived in an outdoor kennel his whole life with 3 other german shepherds and was obviously missing human interaction. (Due to him living outdoors he has remained very fit and healthy and is very simillar in fitness to a 7-8year old at least). Whilst he was with this previous owner, if ever the dogs were let out of the kennel, Sam was usually locked in a stable on his own to prevent him from wandering off the farm. He would whine and yelp continuously. Anyway, I took him as I'd grown close to him and couldn't bare the thought that he'd be put down simply because she didn't have time for him. He's taken to me incredibly, has totally disregarded his previous owner and can't seem to bare being apart from me. My boyfriend also worked here and has known Sam longer than me but Sam still prefers to be with me. I can't leave our house for 5minutes without him whining and tearing at the door, jumping at the doorhandle and windows. I've tried leaving him with his toys (he LOVES balls), I've left him with plenty of food, water, bones, chew toys that he loves, dog chocolate drops and he is totally uninterested in any of them until I return. I've even tried not feeding him in the morning until I go out to see if this will coax him to eat whilst I'm out but again he just whines and waits for me to return. It's not even as simple as him not wanting to be alone, as I said previously he's known my boyfriend longer and gets on very well with him but even if I leave the house by myself, leaving Sam with my boyfriend, he wanders around aimlessly whining and crying, on two occasions he has peed on my partners leg (assuming he's telling him he's angry that my boyfriend has sent me away?) Before we or I leave Sam in the house by himself we always take him out for a proper walk, making sure he does not need to use the bathroom, has worn himself out, etc. I don't leave him for long, 3hours is the most I have ever left him. I just don't know what else could be wrong and how to fix this, it's not necessarily so much that it annoys me (I'm not around to hear the whining) but it distresses me that he gets in such a state and I avoid leaving the house for simple things such as grocery shopping and send my boyfriend out instead. Help, is there anything I could do to help ease his stress other than medication? I'm sorry for the length of this question but I believe if I want a reasonable and helpful answer, I need to give as much detail as possible. I would also like to point out that although he prefers me to my boyfriend Steve (I'm his main care-giver, his owner) when I am home, Sam loves to cuddle and sleep with me but prefers to play with Steve and often favours him over me when it comes to anything except sleeping. But doesn't have these whining problems when Steve leaves, he really doesn't even notice, much less give a damn. It's only when I disappear form sight that he gets stressed out. Once again, any advice would be much appreciated. I've tried leaving music on for him, music that he associates with us, the television, it has no effect. Also I know he is whining the entire time I'm out as I've recorded him with my webcam and video software on my computer a number of times, I've tried it with different situations, different comforts (toys, etc) with music on or with the tv on, he whines and cries the eintre time no matter what I do.
Why has my 4 year old female white bellied caique suddenly become very aggressive towards me? We have 2 DNA-tested female 4 year old white bellies. Nina is a SWEETHEART, loves everyone, cuddles. Lola is a bit more serious and territorial, but still a loving bird, just not as "cuddly" as Nina. I am the primary caregiver (flock-leader!) We also have 3 different cockatoos. Normal routine: morning, get all out of cages, take to kitchen for breakfast treats, and caiques go out to the deck cage outside in the nice weather and get special treats and lots of water bowls and toys, after lots of kisses. They stay out a few hours playing, then in the last few months, Lola has constantly started ATTACKING me! Like, viscously, drawing blood. Nothing has changed. Nina does not do this. It seems to be mostly when I try to get her from the outdoor cage to bring her inside. Husband and teenage boys can get her out fine. I tried leaving her out there on her own and then going back out later but she still bites, HARD. I have to wear gloves now. Any help on this would be appreciated!
How Do I Get Rid Of Mosquitos In My Yard? i have so many mosquito's in my back yard! there is no standing water and the grass is cut. we have a step 2 outdoor play toy for our kids to play on and it sits on our porch and the kids can hardly play on it cause there are mosquito's all over it! 100's! i don't know how to get rid of these in our back yard! our house was built 2 years ago and we have open lots on both sides of us and in back of us, so there is flat open land but the homes association cuts that grass if any grows to tall! help. i need something safe for kids and me as i am pregnant!
How can I stop my cat from??? My cat is 9 months old and he is jumping on the counters, tables, and even the dressers. But he WAS only doing this when we were at work. So we started putting him in his own room with his food and water and litter box, toys and etc. But the past two days he is doing it with us here. How can I train him to not do this? If I get him fixed would this help? I am a 1st time cat owner and my husband has had MANY cats but they all were outdoor. Cole stays inside at all times. I dont want to start putting him outside he is the love of our life but i just dont know what to do! Please help
my cat won't stop meowing!? My kitty got in a fight and needed a few stitches. He is very much an outdoor cat, he even goes out in the pouring rain! He always comes in for the night when I call him though. Since the stitches, he has had to stay locked up in my room for 2 weeks, and he will not shut up... meow, meee-oow, meeeeeooooow... He really wants to go outside. He also managed to catch a cold, its getting better but I'm looking at at least 2 more weeks of incessant meowing. It's not an aggressive or painful meow, he is just whining and I can't make him shut up, day and night, like every 2 minutes, meow! He has always been very vocal, but this is just ridiculous. I tried spraying him with water, cuddling, feeding, treats, toys, nothing stops him. He knows what no whining means but won't listen. Advice on how to get the poor cat to stop driving me crazy? I forgot to mention that he is acting completely normal and healthy otherwise. He is eating and drinking well, and the stitches are almost completely healed. The cold is subsiding, just sneezing that has gone down lately, no runny eyes or discharge... and he's very active as well.
I have two 12 week old kittens that found there way to our house, need some advice? What should I do with them? I went to craigslist to post and add for free kittens and they warn about that because of sick people. I called the animal shelter and they put them to sleep after 6 hours. Animal shelters around the area have told me it's a sad thing, but the best thing for them is to have them put to sleep. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs, all strays that I have tried to find the owners of and never found. The 4 of them are now part of the family. The two new kittens stay in an air conditioned garage with a litter box, food, and water, and all kinds of toys and towers. When we get home from work they are allowed in the kitchen till bedtime, but I put them back in the garage till morning. What is worst, putting them to sleep or keeping them until I find a home for them? They are 2 white and grey females and they are so adorable! Just can't keep them for ever. (I think) Is it cruel to keep 2 outdoor cats that are allowed in the house during cold or bad weather?
Destructive Dogs? We have a doberman and a min pin both just 1 year old. We leave them home alone during the day, we have a fairly big garden and they have free roam, they seem perfectly happy, but they chew EVERYTHING!! They've totally destroyed a water feature, chewed through all the outdoor cabling, chewed the edging, chew chew chew!! When they're in the house they chew anything they can get hold of when we're not looking! How can we stop them from chewing everything? I've tried giving them bones to keep them occupied but they just scrap over them!! And they don't seem interested in toys. Help please?? I only work 4 hours a day so they're never on their own for more than 5 hours. Am I expected to stay by their side 24 hours a day?!
My cat is losing weight, energy, and gaining appetite since his neuter? My cat is three years old and we got him neutered six months ago. He was never a very large cat, but he was just kinda thick. Immediately after he was neutered, he looked like he significantly lost weight, but besides that seemed healthy. Over the last three months his weight loss has started to scare me. I can feel his sternum, ribs, and tale bones, but then his body balloons out and had a bigger belly. Every time I feed him he ferociously attacks his food like he hasn't eaten in weeks. He still drinks water. He was an indoor/outdoor cat but he has lost all desire to go out side or play with anything even his favorite toys when they are sprayed with catnip. I dewormed him a month and a half ago and he started gaining a little weight and started to seem healthy again, and in the last two weeks he has lost all the weight he gained. He has been pooping a large amount. Recently it has been taking place in the bathtub and had a redish tent to it like he wants me to see it. I have an appointment for this Saturday, but I don't have much money to do every test possible. any suggestions?
How can i stop my cat from crying in the night? I have a nine month old cat, Izzy, who i recently got fixed due to her constantly being in heat and crying in the middle of the night. I assumed that once she was fixed this would stop and i would finally be able to sleep, and it did stop for about a week, but she has started crying again. I don't think she is lonely, because i also have her sister and they will play in the middle of the night. She will also come up onto my bed to be pet but then in the middle of being pet she will jump down and start crying again. she has a lot of toys and will play with those in the night but cry as she is doing that. she has food and water and is not an outdoor cat so i can't let her out. she is not crying at the window, just crying around the house. i can't sleep and am extremely tired and don't know what to do. help! her sis doesn't do this at all. any suggestions would be appreciated.
Possible reasons for sagging cat stomach?!!? Basic info: i have a female cat, who was spayed about a month ago. she is a little over 2 years old and has an average cat diet and is at average weight and pretty active. She's an indoor/outdoor cat btw. Question: My cats entire stomach looks as if it's hanging very low, I can see her ribs and backbone, she walks slowly, doesn't eat much, won't meow, and I'm wondering if anyone knows what might be the issue, and if anyone is familiar with this collection of symptoms? Also, she was pretty healthy until 2 days ago. Average weight, playing with her cat toys, always has fresh food and water, pretty normal. I'm literally looking through couches for money right now so I can take her to the vet, but in the meantime, I'm wondering if anyone knows what I might be able to do... Thanks for any helpful or supportive comments. Hoorah I found the emergency vet funds! And I'm going to call the clinic that I had her spayed at in a few moments. Thanks for all the advice so far. =)
Help with our dog! I am at my wits end? We found a stray puppy months ago and after a thorough search for his owners we came up with nothing and decided to adopt him into our home. Since that time he has been through several different in home and out of home obedience training sessions. He has an extreme amount of energy and requires three 30 minute- 1hour walks a day plus tons of outdoor activity before he gets tired. My family loves him dearly but we pay the price for that love. He is a year old now and despite all of the constant training and the numerous behaviorist we've seen the moment we step out that door(even for a mere five minutes) he tears the house up. We've tried crate training but everytime we leave him in the crate he literally tears it up(no matter what type of material it is) and ends up hurting himself. We've tried solid wall cages but he still manages to get the door off by chewing on it or getting stuck. The last time he chewed through his cage we had to take him to the ER because a metal rod was through his mouth and he tore his mouth to shreds. Sooo we started leaving him in an empty room. We put his water bowl, food bowl and tons of toys and such in there. When we came home he had almost literally dug and chewed through the door. We have tried advice from everyone we know. We've tried increasing his walks. I am just at my wits end with this. We love our dog but we've lost thousands of dollars worth of furniture, carpet, chairs, clothes, etc. What can we do? Our dog is a boxer/lab/pit bull mix. He's a one year old neutered male. And we do have other dogs in the house for him to play with. We tried leaving him outside and in the garage. When he was in the backyard he broke our glass window trying to get back in. When he was in the garage he tried to eat our boat.
very matted old cat on my street, should i 'interfere'? i see this lovely old cat everyday, he is clearly an outdoor cat, he usually has food and water near him and he is not a stray as ive spoken to a neighbour who was outside today.. im worried because his fur is so matted, mostly around his rear end, it seems uncomfortable for him to walk and he winced when i touched one of the matts. he also has crust in the corners of his eyes and is generally grubby. the neighbour said he is 20 years old and doesnt like to go inside, he has a cat flap and everything he could want (bed, toys etc) in doors but he never wants to go in, so obviously this cat isnt likely to want to be groomed either but im not sure thats relevant, you would still brush a childs hair if it didnt want you to right? i read that matted fur can be a real problem for cats, they can even get infested with maggots which then eat the poor cat. my question is, should i speak to the owners and try to get them to do something about this, im reluctant to phone the rspca or anything like that as the neighbour said the cat isnt neglected. what do you all think?
Stubborn dog becoming costly...what to try next??? My 2 year old dog isn't cooperating too well! He is an outdoor dog who is kept with 2 other dogs in a two car garage (not attached to the house). Each has their own large enclosure, dog house, toys, bones, etc. They each get let out 4 times a day, walked, and play with each other. The other two are fine. But he: 1. Chews holes through the dog enclosure and escapes. We've tried a tie out, but he moves the cylinder blocks we tie it to and chews a hole through the wire fencing anyway (we don't have anything else to tie him to). 2. Chews on his dog house, is destroying it. Pulls his bedding out, goes the bathroom on the bedding then lays in it. 3. Doesn't play w/ his toys or chew on his bone. Knocks over water bowl. He's never been an indoor dog, and won't; he gets a lot of attention. The only change is that we made his enclosure a little bigger. This has been going on for a week. We never catch him in the act of doing bad things. Any suggestions??? If you aren't going to try to be helpful, please don't bother answering. The dogs are not neglected or abused. This behavior just started, I don't know what to try besides replacing his bedding, putting him on a tie out, and removing his water bowl. He has always been an outside dog. He does get walked everyday, and plays with the other dogs everyday (for a few hours). The dogs have a lot of time dedicated to them. Thanks for those suggestions, but he is getting walked and played with.
I need some ideas on what's best for my puppy while i'm at work? I just got my 5 year old son a 9 week old jack russel puppy a couple days ago. I wasn't quite ready for it since my schedule is very hectic this time of year, but i couldn't say no. The owner of his daycare breeds them, and she brought the pups in for the children to play with, and it was love at first sight for them both. They've spent every moment together at the daycare for the past 2 weeks, and are litterally inseperable. We got her home on saturday night and she is doing great. She had 2 accidents the first night, mainly my fault because i didn't see the signs that she had to go. I've been crate training her, so the first night, i was waking up every 2 hours to take her out. She had one accident in the crate. She pee'd in the one corner and stayed far away from it. The next day went even better. No accidents in the house, and that night no accidents in the crate. She actually lets out a bark to wake me up already. Here is where it gets tricky. I work 8 hour days, and am too far away too come home at lunch to let her out. I asked a dog trainer what my best course of action would be for her during the day when i was at work. I was thinking about setting up an outdoor kennel for her to give her alot of room to play and do her business while i was gone, since i have a nice big yard. The trainer told me that it would actually be very bad for the puppy's health to keep her outside all day, not to mention i live in the country, and there are alot of stray cats and wild animals. She said my only option would be to keep her inside, since she is such a tiny thing. So, either i crate her all day, or set up a x-pen. I would lock her in the bathroom, but i honestly think her crate is bigger. She didn't recommend the x-pen with potty pads because she said since the potty training was going so well, it would almost train her to pee in the house and would kill the amazing progress we made in 2 days. She recomended a larger crate to give her room to play and do her business. So, monday i crated her up before i left for work. I got one of those expandable crates that comes with the divider grates so you could make the crate bigger as she gets older. But instead of using it as a divider, i hooked it onto the bottom of the cage, suspended right above the pull out plastic tray bottom. I put a soft bed ontop of the grate. Now she has a bed with a small stepdown to the plasic tray. I figured that if she had to go, she'd go there instead of on her bed. The first day it worked like a charm. I placed a small bowl of water in there for her, and stuffed a kong with treats along with some other teething toys. I got home monday, and it worked great. She pooped twice on the plastic tray and had a small puddle of pee there as well. Her bed was dry, and she kept her toys on the bed with her. When i got home, again, she didn't have any accidents in the house, and she went potty for me every hour when i took her out. But, right before bedtime, i was getting ready to take her out when i noticed she went right in her crate. I thought that she was learning it was bedtime already and was shocked. Instead, she crawled in her bed, and started to pee. I picked her up quickly and got her outside. I cleaned up the trickle in her bed, crated her up, and went to sleep.....again letting her out every 2 hours during the night. She had a few accidents again, but still did her business for me every time i took her out. The next morning, i cleaned her crate out really good again, and did the same thing i did the day before. When i got home today i found her in a mess. She pee'd and pooped on the plastic tray, but her bed was also heavily soiled. She also had poop on most of her toys. I cleaned and disinfected the crate and toys, and washed her bedding again. She still didn't have an accident in the house and is still doing her business every time i take her out, but i notice she still wants to go in her crate to go potty, which i stop her before she has the chance to. It is now wed. morning, she only had one accident all night, and i'm just wondering what i should do at this point. I feel bad enough keeping her in a crate for 8 hours during the day, but i don't want her playing in her poop and pee all day too. I feed her well in the morning, of course make sure she has plenty of time to play and do her business before i leave. Then i feed her again after i get home, making sure i give her undivided attention all night. I don't let her drink or eat anything past 730. We usually go to bed around 10. What do you think the best thing i could do is? She went from not liking to pee and poo in her crate to rolling around in it in just 2 days. I want to fix this before it gets any worse, just don't know what the best thing to do is. The owner of the daycare said it was ok if i dropped her off with my son in the morning, but she has a couple kids to take care of during the day too, and she doesn't really have the time to devote to the puppy training. My son wo
Am I A Responsible Pet Owner? Your Open QuestionShow me another » Am I A Responsible Animal Owner? I own seventeen animals and I was wondering if I was responsible with them. Birds/Cockatiels/Parakeets- I have two cockatiels and three parakeets. Every week I ride my bike to the local pet store and buy them their toys, cuttle bones, treats, calcium supplements, and any thing else I need while I am there. I also take them every month to an Avian Vet for their monthly check-ups. Every four months I trim their nails, and every six months I clip their wings. I let them out for about four to six hours a day. I handle (stroking them, playing ladders with them, and cuddling) them for about an hour. I am currently working on getting my cockatiels used to water. I make sure my parakeets/cockatiels have vitamin/calcium enriched food. I clean all my birds' cages each week, without using any harmful chemicals or substances. My parakeet recently is showing signs of being about to lay. This was by accident. I have loving and responsible homes lined up for them. Frogs/ White's Tree Frogs- We have three of these frogs. Each week I buy crickets for them, sometimes mealworms for a treat every so often. They go to an Exotic Vet every month for monthly check-ups. We have heating lamps to keep their color up. We have de-chlorified water for them to soak in. We also have a variety of logs, fake plants, huts for them. We play with them for about an hour each day. Cats/Himalayan Long-Haired- We have one male and female Himalayan cats. They are neutered/spayed. They shed a lot, so I daily brush their coat. i also clean their litter boxes weekly. Charlie (male) goes to the Vet once more than my other animals because he is an outdoor cat. He gets his shots every three weeks. We have decided against de-clawing them. Every month we give them cat-nip, which makes them extremely hyper, which is why we do this monthly. Misty (female) goes monthly. She was a rescue cat, and she still has a bit of behavioral issues. Dogs/Cockerspainel/Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier- Our dogs get walked every morning and night. They go outside and roam freely (fenced-in back yard), and we get them groomed every two months. We have them potty trained, and they are very people friendly. They go to a Vet every two months (we have a lot of animals!). They eat some people food, but not a lot. Rusty (cocker) has a bloodline of winning show dogs, they are all winners, it's some strict breeding thing. Rusty isn't a show dog. He's a family dog, and we have never bred him. The breeder wanted us to breed him and put him in shows, but we refused. They get treats every night before bed. They have a lot of toys! Too bad they don't know how to pick them up. Hamsters/Robo/Syrain/Russian- We have three, two dwarfs and one Syrain. We give them veggies but take them out after an hour. They get handled every day, and love to run around in their balls. We use Care Fresh bedding, not cedar. We take them to the vet every two months. We clean their cage every week. Our Syrain is so nice! We keep them all together, and our Syrain doesn't even so much as glance at them. They have three wheels in their cage. One for each. Our Robo, Sweetie, likes to use cotton balls and make a buiding out of them. Our Russian, Deadly Nightshade, has a bit of a attitude. She doesn't like to be handled when I'm holding the others. Our dwarfs make tunnels underground, so it takes about five minutes to find them. Cichlid Oscar- We named him Oscar, creative, huh? He doesn't go to a vet. He is five years old now, and he's dieing. He is immune to ick, which kind of scares me. He's not very strong, now. He doesn't go up to get air that often. We feed him crickets, small grasshoppers, and other bugs. He's about a foot long now. He used to have a buddy, but he died three years ago. Also, Oscar likes to eat small goldfish and minos, too. Volunteering- I volunteer at Animal Friends Humane Society in Trenton, Ohio.I work with the dogs, cats, rodents, and birds. I work with the small/medium sized birds. I foster home the birds, though. I have a rather large aviary that takes up half my yard. It is divided into sections that are large enough to house a African Grey parrot. The birds are not housed together. They are housed in extemely large cages, that are separated, with room to fly around. In the back area is where all the cages are, and the front is where they fly around. We have perches, cuttlebones, calcium blocks, about eight different foods for each different species of bird. The cages can hold about fifteen to twenty parakeets, if that gives you any idea of how large the cages are. I don't house large birds, they are too large for me. The birds don't fly around at one time. Each species gets about an hour of play time. So I do help the local animals. I pay for all the food, housing, vet bills, toys, treats, medical treatments, play gyms (for birds), wing/nail trimming, grooming, shots, and other necassary things by myse by myself. The only animals I don't pay for are the Yorkie and Maltese. They belong to my grandparents. No Vets will examine a fish without killing it in the process.
THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE CHILDCARE PROVIDERS.... 10 POINTS TO LOOK OVER AND APPROVE MY PLANS!? I am opening a daycenter. Yes, it's approved by the government. Right now, I'm in the process (along with the people who opened it with me) to: - hire employee's - organize which rooms are needed, where, what they are for, etc - decorate rooms Right now, I've decided to work on figuring out what each room is going to be for. I'd like those of you in a childcare bussiness to approve it. Look it over and tell me what your suggestions are. Obviously this is a stressful thing. Little Ones Cradle (6 weeks to crawling)- We are only going to have 8 babies in her at the most. This room will have 8 little cribs lined up with the works, mobile, bedding, blankets, and comfort items. Of course we have 2 changing tables with each child's diapers, wipes, etc. We have a 9 block cubby section with a basket for each child. This is to keep 2 sets of extra clothes, coat, and shoes. There will be a glider to rock the children to sleep or feed bottles. In addition we have a feeding table up for those who are starting to eat foods. Then of course we have a play area with age appropiate toys. Inch Worms (crawling to walking)- This room is similar to the Little Ones Cradle, however instead of 1 big room, there is a wall with a door dividing it. One side has cribs, changing tables, cubbies, gliders, and feeding tables. Then on the other side of the door, we have an entire play area. All are are appropiate and safe, plus the entire area is covered in a bright cheerful mat to keep the children from hurting themselves. Tiny Footsteps (walking to 3 years old)- This room has a mat flooring for safety reasons. There are lots of toys. Plus a story area for the children. STILL NEED A NAME FOR THIS ROOM (3 years old to 4 years old)- This room first has a morning/afternoon circle. Then we have lots different centers for center time, science, math, blocks and building, library, ABC center, manipulative play, sand/water table, acting center (puppets, puppet show area, dress-up clothes, stage), play kitchen, dolls, and computers. Busy Bees (4 years old to 5 years old)- This room is almost the same. It has a circle area for the opening/closing circle. Then there are many centers for the kids to play in inculding science, math, blocks and building, library, ABC center, manipulative play, sand/water table, acting center (puppets, puppet show area, dress-up clothes, stage), play kitchen, dolls, and computers. Hungry House (lunch room)- This room is obviously to eat lunch! Mighty Jungle (Indoor Gym)- Huge room with slides, mats, and climbing. It replaces our outdoor area on rainy days. Sleeping Beauties (nap room)- This room is just an empty room that will have cots for the children over 2 and a few cribs for the children under 2 but in Tiny Footsteps. Little Picasso (art room)- The art room is a joy for most the children. We have fun projects for them to complete each day. They begin going to the art room then they begin to crawl. Motzarts In Training (music room)- The children have lots of fun in this room. They learn to play instruments, sing, dance, clap beats, and move with music. All children come to this room starting when they begin to crawl. What do you think? Also if anyone can think of a name for 3 years old to 4 years old I would love it! blondie- Yes, the Inch Worms will be eating in their room. I agree way to hectic for them to be eating in the regular lunch room.
I don't think this is cruel--do you? I keep my 8month old Lhasapoo puppy outside because he's not pottytrained and he's always getting into stuff. Now, i've been called a "bad doggy owner" and "irrisponsible" a lot lately, so i thought for all you lovely name-callers out there; I'd let you in on a little MORE of the situation.. He come inside probably 2-3 times a day , depending on the day , probably about a 2 hour stay indoors each time. all the time he's inside he wants to be outside. when i offer him to go outside he always accepts gladly. he's warm out there, all the time, because his crate is well insolated. he gets lots of excersize tearing around w/ toys in the backyard. people say i should pottytrain him. i say what's the use? so he'll be able to be inside all the time. yay. he'll be inside- where he doesn't like to be. in a crate all day, 10 minutes of attention every 5 hours of loneliness. woop. no toys. no humans. stuck in a stuffy lil box all day, nothin to do. whining to get out. AS OPPOSED TO: all day outside with the option of being inside the crate or out. probably 4-6 hours of attention a day. water and food almost all the time(except some days when I don't know he's outand i forgot to check). lots of space to run around. leaves to chase, toys to play with, and lots and lots of fun...i don't know about you but I don't think the outdoor life is such a bad idea. diseases; If he's on his flea & tick prevention medicine, and up-to-date on shots, I don't see the problem. coldness; If his house is well insolated, and he's blocked from the wind with the bick blue plastic cover that covers his dog house, I don't see the problem. lonliness; If he gets 4-6-8 hours of attention a day, i don't see the problem... what other reasons that i shouldn't have him outside u gonna throw at me, now? BTW -- i'm planning on pottytraining him this month, but things keep comin up. i just thought i would post - guess i got a lil sick of all the rude, mean comments whenever I posted that I kept my dog outside. xx niki
Indoor cat - behavioural problem? I have moved into a flat with someone who has two male indoor cats (aged 2 yrs). One of the cats wakes us up at around 4-5am every morning (sometimes even around 2am) meowing very loudly in the hallway. He tries to get into the bedrooms, so repeatedly jumps up at the door handle and sometimes manages to open the door. He will not then sleep on the bed but wants to run around the room and play, and climb all over you, so at the owner’s advice I do not allow him to stay in my room. The owner despairs of what to do because no amount of reprimands and chasing away from the door helps – he is back again within a couple of minutes. It’s not really possible to shut them in another room at night due to the size of the flat, and the location of the litter tray. They have free access to water and food at all times. I think they sleep most of the day, and when the humans get home they want to play – even in the early hours of the morning! I am at my wit’s end because I am being constantly woken up every night. They have plenty of toys, but due to being indoor cats I doubt they are getting the exercise and stimulation that outdoor cats can have. When I am home in the evenings I am trying to encourage them to actively chase the balls and toys that I throw for them etc, in the hope that they will expend some energy. But unfortunately it makes no difference and we are still being woken up in the early hours of the morning with a howling cat that just won’t stop. The other cat is fine and causes no problems at all. Can anyone suggest how we can break this habit, or what the cat’s problem might be?
Is This Considered Animal Cruelty ? There is this guy who lives down the street from me. He had gotten a boxer puppy and kept really good care of it. Now the dog is fully grown and he keeps it in a small outdoor kennel. The dog has to be no more than 6 to maybe 8 months old. He has a big bucket for water and she has a dog house and a metal roof thing over the kennel. He has poured cement on the ground, and her little paws never touch the grass or dirt. He never cleans the kennel and she has poop and pee all over the place. Every time I check on her (when he isn't home, I don't know him that well), she has no food. She isn't that skinny, but you can kind of see her ribs, so I don;t know if she has a high metabolism or is fed a certain time of the day. Either way you can sort of see her ribs. She has no chew toys or any toys for that matter in the kennel, and is never let out of the kennel for a walk or a run in the yard. I want to tell some one but I'm not sure if it is considered abuse. please tell me what you think.
My poor Kitty is SICK! Please Help me figure out why...? Ok - First off, I know to take the Cat to a vet! They are not open right now, but I am going tomorrow morning around 10am - so please just try to answer with possible ideas because I am nervous and scared, and I want to know whats wrong now. Ok - She is about 10 months to a year old. I *think* she was the runt of the litter, but I cant be sure. Anyways, she is very playfull, loving, and active. She still acts like a kitten in some ways, maybe because she could be the runt. She is also a little smaller, but not out of the ordinary Anyways, starting this morning, she was VERY tired, she would not respond to her toys or to me playing with her, and that is super rare. Then she started to heave, making a very loud noise (louder and weirder than the normal noise a cat makes before vomiting) and then, of course, she threw up. The contents of the vomit was a small amount (about a tablespoons worth) of a whitish, tan colored liquid with a gooey texture to it. no chunks or anything like that. Also - she wouldnt eat her food today - not even her wet food, which she normally goes insane over. All she can do now is just lay around, and she was getting dehydrated so i used a water syringe to spray water in her mouth - she was ok with it, she didnt squirm or anything. She has thrown up the white stuff in pairs of Two Vomits each time, and that has happend a total of FOUR Times today. Also - I noticed about 2 to 3 weeks ago that she MIGHT be pregnant, but I cant be too sure. She is kind of an outdoor cat, but she spends 90% of her time indoors, only once in awhile does she want to go outside. Well anyways - if someone can help me out please let me know! I dont have a life or any friends anymore so this cat is my only buddy and I am very nervous! thanks in advance for any help or ideas I dont want to get my cat spayed i have had a ton of cats in my life, im not irresponsible and i know what I am doing - cats after a year can have babies, ive seen it happen plenty of times also, i dont believe in doing that shit - let everyone else control the pet population, i am going to allow my animals to live natually and the way nature intended - not in the way that humans came down and decided how each animal should live plenty of areas with humans is over populated, and were more desctrive than any cats can ever be... so when humans start castrating themselves, ill get my pets spayed i know its Healthy to get it done, I know that getting pregnant, at any age, has risks, but I believe they should be the way it was intended by nature, and not chopping off body parts besides - that info doesnt help me now, so take your useless critisisms and your "pretend" knowledge and go waste someone elses time mandie k - thanks alot that was helpful rachel - judging by the small smount of vomit and a few other things i noticed she doesnt SEEM poisined but of course i have NO WAY of knowing I want to take her to ER vet trust me! but i am disabled and I have very little money, i dont know how it works? if i cant pay up front wont they not help me? i can probably muster up about a total of $100 - and i get my checks on the 1st and 15th of each month, and they arent much either but i thought u had to pay it all up front, i looked it up online and it seems that way if not, let me know, i will go to the ER VET RIGHT THIS SECOND
What Are Your Opinions? My friend came over to our house and looked around, now she is saying that my kids are spoiled and will turn out to be brats. I don't think they are spoiled. Your opinions? 1. There is a bathroom in each of my kids rooms. 2. They have a lot of toys, some are pretty expensive. 3. They each have their own play room or office-type room. 4. We have two re-rooms. 5. My children's bedrooms are large. 6. They wear expensive clothes. 7. They have mini-fridges in their playrooms filled with water, cut up veggies, etc. for the toddlers and other stuff for my teenager. 8. We have an indoor pool and hot tub, and an outdoor pool and hot tub. 9. We have maids/chef/other help. 10. We have a big house. My kids do get a lot of stuff, but if they cry for it , they do not get it.They have rules to abide by and are punished if they don't. They cannot eat whatever whenever. My 13 year old and 2 older boys, were treated the same way and are all very polite, grateful children. Is my 'friend' right? I just re-read my question and it sounds like I'm bragging. Sorry about that, I was not trying to at all.
WHAT Zodiac SIGNS Like in BED (secrets)? Aries is not adverse to anything athletic that allows them to dominate. In fact, to please the Ram you'll want to make them work. A game of chase around the house… or hotel… or outdoor area of your choosing (with seductive stops intermittently, or a flash to give them a taste of what they're chasing) will do wonders. Just be sure to wriggle away and keep running, until neither of you can continue the chase! Taurus is the food lover of the zodiac - as well as one of its most sensual lovers. So it follows that to add some play to your sex life, you'd be well-served with a bull to combine their two loves into a lover's food game. Edible additions are always welcome in the bedroom with Taurus - or anywhere else that you deign to do it. Choose the spreadable, smearable sort, put it on yourself and let Taurus blaze the treasure trail. Chart their territory wisely and they won't be the only one in for a different kind of dessert! For Gemini, mind games are the primary tool of seduction. The focus here is on foreplay. One surefire way to set their libido a light is to indulge in role play - in fact, turning fantasy into reality (teacher/student or doctor/nurse) will be a guaranteed twin-pleaser. For added excitement try meeting in a bar and pretending to be strangers… before giving it a go in the bathroom… then leaving as if you're not going home together. Cancer is sensitive - and sensual by nature. They're also submissive. Tie your crab up and spend hours lavishing them with attention (feathers, ticklers, oils - you name it), and you'll have cracked their shell for good. Make it your point to break their orgasm record… Then don't untie them until you're both repeatedly satisfied. Leo is known for loving the spotlight - in bed and beyond. As such, Lions tend toward victim fantasies - victim of the voyeur that is! In other words, put the lion in the spotlight (doing anything and everything you choose) and you'll likely score points. Tell your Leo you want to watch them act out your fantasy - that they're on stage for only you (or the world) to see… their voracity may surprise you. Conversely, you could also try a little switch. Ask your Leo to watch you… they may find the role change refreshing. Virgo may come off as serious, but keep in mind that their penchant is for neatness, not chasteness! Indeed, a little kink goes a long way with the Virgin. So don your leather gloves or any fetish gear that seems apropos (leather, latex and the like go over well here) to show them a taste of heaven… along with a little discipline… After all, no one is perfect, and they might need to be punished! Libra is known to be fickle, and as such you want to keep them excited. The balanced ones will enjoy any sexual adventure that centers around location. Join the mile-high club, feel each other up in a taxi. Whatever, wherever can be your new creed - as long as it's festive and fun. To make a game of it, create a point system for initiating sex based on the risk factor of your location. Then set a time frame and see who wins. Scorpio is the zodiac's siren. As such, even the most seemingly sensible stinger is open to sexual exploration - blindfolds or sex toys, anyone? So long as they're assured that you're under their spell. If you really want to blow a Scorpion's mind, make a list of questions about your desires and give them a personal erotic mystery to unravel. As they answer each question (correctly of course), remove an item of clothing… to reveal either an elaborate ensemble or intense arousal. Sagittarius is a take-charge type, but adventure is always the name the game, which means switching things up on occasion. So, to set your Sag's blood to boil, remove them from the driver's seat for a second. Sit them down, restrain them if necessary and tease them, with a strip-tease, perhaps. The game, of course, will be seeing how long they can hold themselves back before they re-claim control and ravage you. Play your game outdoors for an added bonus! Hardworking Capricorn is known for focus… Why not take that focus and hardwork to the bedroom? Try watching a little erotica to get warmed up, then delve into making your own! Just remember, the goat will most likely want to play the director… and make you the star. But once you have their attention, there's no limit to the heights they can scale. Eccentric Aquarius requires a complex game to stay interested - sexually speaking. Feeling free whilst simultaneously entwined will do a lot for the Water Bearer. As such, if swinging is too far out for you (it probably won't be for Aquarius), pick a park to give some passers by a peep show. But of course, you'll have to pretend you don't want them to notice. Shy types fear not, it needn't be sex - a make out will do. For added points, keep track of the places you've displayed public affection… maybe even make a map! Pisces is accustomed to being a pushover. But if you put Pisces in the power position, Pisces is accustomed to being a pushover. But if you put Pisces in the power position, you'll uncover a whole new side to the fish - one that will make you submit to their whims! Ask to be dominated - to whatever level you're comfortable (bondage and spanking optional) and watch Pisces rise to the occasion. If it's near water, all the better!
How do I keep my cat indoors? I have had my cat since he was 8 weeks old (he is now 3). As of late, every time a door opens he bolts outside. I don't want him to go outside because not only does he not have proper vaccines to be an outdoor cat, there are foxes around the neighborhood and there have been several other neighborhood cats that have been killed by them. However, he has learned that if the dog barks the dog is allowed out, so the cat thinks he can meow and be let out also. He is not afraid of water (he plays in the sink and bathtub) and he has been neutered since he was less than a year old. He has two cat trees, a plethora of toys, and more attention than he could possibly need, but he still wants to be outside exploring and chasing chipmunks and squirrels. Do you have any tips on keeping him inside?
Is wife ridiculous lazy or something is wrong with her? I read a few question/answers about a lazy wife. But I can say none of them is as same lazy as mine. I really don't know how to resolve this problem. We both work and have a preschool son (with light asthma). After work, almost everyday, I do home work with my son, play with him after that, read bedtime story, supervising his dinner. Also I buy toys for him, buy clothing, buy his friend's birthday gifts....even shampoo, lotion...take him to library and outdoor activities. When he is sick, I make sure he take the medicine...At weekend, I cleaned up my son's room with him, vacuum the house, cut gross, clean garage...buy home necessities-too paste, brush, shampoo..., purchase around furniture... Did I claim doing too much? Do I love to do all of these? No, only some. Others I have to do as my wife is not doing! Does she knows? Yes, I talked to her many many times and even some argument. So What does she do? She does wash dishes after dinner. Of course she does some other things, like cooking, clean washroom. But virtually she does not do anything for the family except dish washing regularly. She cooks (plus only at weekend, as per my memory, she never cooked 2 days continuously. We have a relative help us cooking at weekday), but most of time, she will loose temper if I don't help her something. But seldom I sit while she cooks as my preschool son cannot let me be still. A few times she did vacuum the family. Other things she only does under request - when I request to clean the kitchen, bring some water for my son, prepare some fruits... I can say in our 10years marriage, never a time she cleaned up the whole house, never think to buy home necessities (like replace pan if it wears out) initially. In our bedroom, she night table, phone and lamp always covered by dust. She is not cleaning the bathroom regularly... too much to mention. Let alone some "special" house work, like cleaning patio glass door. I believe in her life time, she will never clean it. I told many times, my attitude is: if you are tired, don't do it or do a little. Do it when you are not tired and have time. Some housework shall do it regularly. You must have some time in an entire year to do some house work. By the way, I don't have any prejudice against house work which must be done by wife. Her parents also addressed her problem, but she only changes for a few days only. Is there any way to change her or something is wrong? Help please. Thanks for some answers. Well, she is not depressed as she always she was very satisfied at the current condition. I don't mean only woman has to do house work. In the matter of fact, I am doing most house work as I like clean. I just requested her to step up to share some house work, which shall be normal for a family. It seems she has no interest in anything. What she wants is "work, dinner and dish washing". But I think it is abnormal living like that. She has no interest to take pictures for my son or herself when we go out (unless you request her to do.) She converted to Christian a few years back, but only when to church a few times. One of our neighbor has bible reading every Saturday night and they call her to join. But she find all kinds of excuse not to go. At sale season, I bet most mom must squeeze around malls to look for clothing for her children in order to get quality clothing at a bargain price. But she not. I have to much example to say....
My 1 year old cat won't stop scratching the door frames and bedroom door? He just won't quite. I have done everything! I have always left my door open for my cat's because I love sleeping with them, they're my babies! My oldest, Diesel is a 1 year old, neutered male and has always scratched on the door frames ever since I got him, my youngest a 5 month old female Mara Jade uses the scratch toys like she is supposed too, my oldes is the problem. He then progressed to scratching the open door and pushing it closed from the inside of the room. I put a pillow in between the door and the frame so he couldn't push it closed from scratching at it. I have used double sided tape, I have used aluminum foil, I have sprayed the 'no scratch', but nothing seems to help- even spraying water at him doesnt keep him from doing it. He does it during the day to stretch, but around 6am in the morning he does it over and over and over again on the door until I get up and see what he wants...usually food. I feed my cats every night before bed, and every morning before work. They get a little wet food and dry food all day. Help! I live in an apartment. I have scratching posts, a kitty condo, cardboard thingy with cat nip; I've used soft claws- he hated them so much he still scratched the door frame and when they wouldn't come off he would chew them off. You name it I've tried it or own it. He is an attention starved cat. I am always holding him, petting him, playing with him, sleeping with him, he is every where I am. He sits on the edge of the tub while i'm taking my shower in the morning. He is not an outdoor cat, nor does he desire to be- I've tried, he's afraid of loud noises, and people knocking on the door or walking up the stairwell; he runs and hides under my blankets in my room. I'm at my wits end. I would like at least one peaceful night of sleep; so would my boyfriend. I really would rather not have him declawed- but Im running out of options.
