going to aussie can i take wooden toys as gifts?

been told by others that i cannot take wooden toys to aussie through customs any ideas

1. You can mail wooden items through the Post Office so you should be able to carry them into the country. You can go to www.travel.state.gov to see the exact restrictions on bringing things into the country.
2. Taking wood into Australia is a real problem, they are extremely strict about any type of wood going into Australia, I wouldn't risk it if I were you as they are so fastidious at customs check points and will more than likely confiscate them, they have such tight security checks you won't get a splinter through.
3. If you have verified this and not heard it second hand, then think of alternative toys. The rules may be the same regarding mailings but you might try mailing one before going and seeing if it gets there. If it does, then mail the rest. Tips: avoid taking any fruit with you, too. We got pulled out of the line (they sue dogs) because we had had an apple in a backpack two days before. Once pulled out of the line, they went through everything. Also, on the way there we landed in Indonesia. They tell you on the flight that anyone caught bringing in drugs there - not a problem for us - would receive the death penalty. Have a great trip; we want to go back soon.
4. Wooden toys would be fine as the wood would have been treated etc. They are more worried about Plant material, Live animals and animal products, Fresh fruit or vegetables, seeds and nuts, Animal Products, Dairy and egg products, and general food.
